Why I Chose the Name Oskana Biodynamics

The name Oskana holds deep personal and cultural significance.

Here in Regina, many of our familiar names -- Wascana Creek, Wascana Lake, and Wascana Street -- are rooted in the Cree word Oskana, meaning bones.  The name connects to the history of this land, where buffalo bones once lay scattered across the pains, reminders of both the abundance of the buffalo and their near disappearance during settlement times.

Growing up along Wascana Creek, attending Wascana School, and now living and practicing on Wascana Street, the name has always been part of my life.  By choosing Oskana for my business, I am honouring both the land where I grew up and the Cree language and history that shapes this region.

In Oskana Biodynamics, the word biodynamics reflects the gentle, holistic form of craniosacral therapy I practice, which listens to the body's natural rhythms and innate intelligence.  Paired with Oskana, It creates a name that bridges land, history, language, and healing -- connecting, body, bones, and place.
